Hey gang. Night shifts coming up... Help? ;)

In the way of legal insanity, we have Lethbridge, Alberta, alderwoman Darlene Heatherington! Last year, while on "city business" in Great Falls, Montana, she disappeared and was reported missing by her husband. She was found in Las Vegas having a fling, but insisted she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. The police filed a public mischief charge against her, which she denied. (Original story from CBC.ca)

Apparently, once she was home she decided to invent herself a stalker. The only problems with the whole thing were leaving copies of some of the letters on her Palm Pilot and her computer, researching stalking at the local public library, and copying some of the material from her research directly into the letters. (Articles in the Globe and Mail, Billings Gazette [Montana], and a timeline of the whole thing from CBC.ca)

Once again people, if you're going to commit a crime, don't be stupid. Or in this case, get yourself a shrink and avoid being a criminal altogether.

Scarily enough I think I heard of another instance of someone doing something like this, complete with the library research.

Do these people realize how stupid they're being, I wonder? It's boggling...

"Oh, I think I'll commit a crime! Let's see how much evidence I can leave lying around!"

It reminds me of that woman in Wisconsin who faked her own kidnapping. The whole freaking state and then some gets out to look for her, and then after they find her they hear evidence and witnesses saying that they saw her looking stuff about kidnapping in the library, buying rope and other things that she later claimed were used in her "kidnapping". I mean, really people.
